Amazing Faces

Amazing Faces is a collection of poems in this well illustrated book. I think the students will really like the illustrations.

I was looking for my next book to read to the students when a student came in the library. I told him I couldn't decide which book to choose next. He said, "You should read Amazing Faces. I really like that book." So the decision was made.

The illustrations alone is a great reason to read this book. I hope the students will like the last book I read to them on the 2011-2012 Bluebonnet list.

Immogene's Last Stand

Imogene's Last Stand is about a little girl named Imogene who loves history. She loves history so much she quotes famous people through out the book. She cleans up the town's historical society and then learns that it will be torn down to make room for a shoe factory. She makes many attempts to save her beloved society. Imogene is a character and the pictures are really nice.

The kids loved the quotes and were impressed with how much history she knew.

GOAL!

The book I have been reading last week and will finish this week, is Goal by Mina Javerherbin. It is about some friends who live in a bad neighborhood and how they deal with bullies. The illustrations are very good and go well with the text.

With fewer students this year I am able to read a book to all classes in only two weeks. This is good because I will be able to read more books to the students before they vote in January.

The Duchess of Whimsy

The Duchess of Whimsy is a fairy tale of sorts. It is short and easy reading. This is my favorite picture from the book when the Duchess stares at the Earl of Norm's sandwich. This book has given me extra time during lunch to try to learn the students names. I read to 3rd and 5th grades for the last two weeks. I have taken a break from lunch bunch for a week to have the Scholastic book fair. Next week I will read to 4th grade.

May Lunch bunch

Back by popular demand the Bluebonnet lunch bunch. We are now reading books from the 2011-2012 list. We will vote in January 2012 on these books. We had 81% of 3rd-5th grade students voting last January. Next January I'd like to have 90% of 3rd-5th graders vote.

The book we are reading now is The Hallelujah Flight. The pictures are good and the story is humorous and give you a sense of the historical time that the book portrays. I hope students check this book out after we have read it.

Bluebonnet Winner/TLA

The Bluebonnet winner for our campus was The Uglified Ducky.

And by now you know the State Bluebonnet winner was The Uglified Ducky. The award was presented on Wednesday and I'm guessing the author has a sore hand now. I have just gotten back from the TLA convention where Willy Claftin was awarded the 2010-2011 award. Although I did not go to the luncheon I did see the long line of librarians waiting for the author's signature on their book(s). I did get a signed book but, I bought it at his booth in the exhibit hall.

We have been already reading the books on the list for 2011-2012 list. I wonder who will win next year? Any predictions? What book on the list is your favorite?
